Please be reminded that the Pre-Associational meeting approved by the messengers in November 2008 will meet on Tuesday, October 6th. The meeting will be hosted by Pastor Charles Swilling and Rocky Springs MBC in Dialville, near Jacksonville. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. Each church and missionary requesting support from the MBA of Texas are scheduled to be present. This will be your opportunity to express concerns and ask questions in order to have a good understanding of the plans for next year.

This will also be a good time to discuss the proposed Mission Policy that was referred to the churches in 2008. No business will be conducted. This is an information exchange.

The Southwest Association Quarterly Meeting was recently hosted by Grace Pointe MBM in Brownwood. Missionary Leland Acker is doing a good job teaching the members of the Mission. It was a blessing to attend their meeting and to attend the Sunday morning services of the Mission.

We are excited about our new door hangers and using them for witnessing. We used a “youth garage sale” for outreach this month. Along with the sale, the teens were having a free car wash and face painting for the community. Many seeds were planted and we are
praying for the harvest.

The month has brought many difficulties within the church family. Satan is actively attacking but it is also good to watch God shine through.

Our GROW program has been a blessing. When we meet, not only are we making phone calls, writing cards and visiting, but also getting to know each other better. As a result from the cards, a family from Korea is visiting. Thank you so much for your support.

July was a good month but our attendance was down. The Lord blessed us with one addition by letter. Jeremy Glasscock, our daughter Jackie’s oldest son, joined our church and announced his call to the ministry. I encourage you to pray for Jeremy. He has some important decisions to make concerning his schooling at this time in his life.

We are still being blessed with visitors and we are praying for the Lord to lead them our way. Our newer members are proving to be great blessings to our church. We had a wonderful time at Pine Springs Baptist Camp. Twenty-nine attended from our church and two of them were saved. You are welcome to come and visit with us anytime. Please continue to pray for us.

It is a pleasure to give you this report of the work the Lord has called me to do. In July we started to minister in San Antonio at the Hispanic Church Camp. It was my prayer that we would have at least 50 in attendance for the Camp. My prayer was answered, and to my surprise, we had a total of 50 Hispanics. It was a real blessing. Next year, I think I will pray for 100 and I want you to help with your prayers for that petition.

I also report to you that in Longview and Tatum we have not yet had professions of faith but two of those who attend services have decided to take the obedience step of scriptural baptism. The baptism service will be on August 23rd.

On July 19th, we had our first meeting in Pasadena in the Annex of Fellowship MBC. We had fourteen people get together to worship God. On July 26th we had fifteen attending and two of them made the decision to be baptized. We are going to have the discipleship classes. The baptism will be in September. Please pray for this new work. This new work is going to take more time and 400 more miles on Sundays. The cost in gasoline will be high. Please pray for this work so that the Lord can supply the needs for this ministry. Also, please pray for me and my family.

It was a great blessing to host a mission rally with the Southwest Association of Missionary Baptist Churches at Grace Pointe MBM. There were 53 in attendance. Bro. Marion Reed gave the men’s meeting a very informative presentation on state missions, both the current work, plans for Spanish-speaking works and the proposed mission policy that will be considered at the 2009 meeting.

The Southwest Ladies Auxiliary shared testimonies and discussed the upcoming retreat in Lubbock on October 16th and 17th. The ladies of Grace Pointe are currently in the process of forming an auxiliary and are looking forward to the retreat in October.

Bro. Jim Slocumb presented Texas Mission Development, as well as a report on Grace Pointe from the perspective of Rocky Springs MBC. He also preached a stirring message
from Luke 9. Others making presentations were Bro. Jack Spencer, Clovis, NM, Bro. Mike Rice, pastor of Arp First Baptist Church, the sponsor of Bro. Joel Cobbs, and Bro. Phil Babcock, Missionary in Midland. All in all, eleven churches were represented. This is a blessing when you consider the closest ABA church is 84 miles away from Grace Pointe. The day after the mission rally, we were approached at the Dairy Queen by a man who asked if we had a great revival. Brownwood is becoming aware of our presence.

We are planning to have a VBS in August. Future plans are to start Sunday School, evening services, and continue to work toward organizing quickly. Thank you for your prayers and generous financial support.

God has blessed us with one addition in July. We had three first time visitors and six repeat visitors. The unity and spirit in our church is better than it has been in many months. We are now recording our services on DVD for our shut-ins. It has been a spiritual blessing to them. We hope in the future to have these services on a local cable outlet.

We ask your prayers for our daughter Wendy. She underwent surgery for a large tumor which was cancer. It was a 48 pound tumor. The surgery went well and she is recovering.

It is with great joy that I give this report. July was a very good month in several ways. We will soon baptize three of the four who professed faith in Jesus Christ. Two of these are in their mid-teens and one is twelve. We are very thankful for them.

We are having a few first time visitors almost weekly and many of them return. With summer being almost over and school starting up, we are looking forward to getting our outreach activities back on track and are praying for a noticeable increase in attendance and offerings. Pray for the Lord to bless our efforts.

JIM SLOCUMB
TEXAS MISSION DEVELOPMENT

July was a very busy and very enjoyable month. I traveled more than 1,500 miles representing the TMD program. My travels included two Sunday services and a Mission Rally with Grace Pointe MBM in Brownwood where State Missionary Leland Acker is the Pastor. I also spoke concerning TMD to Pursley MBC at Purdon where Chet Brake is the Pastor.

Dorothy and I celebrated our 52nd anniversary and enjoyed a week’s vacation on the Galveston beach with our son and his family.
