June was a busy travel month. We visited several churches and enjoyed the visits very much. We visited two churches that were having Mission Emphasis Sunday. We went to Abilene to visit with Pastor Ernie Kight and Wyndrock MBC and to San Antonio to be with Pastor Steven Duffitt and Missionary Baptist Church of San Antonio. Both of these visits were very enjoyable. We attended a fellowship meeting of many of the Spanish- speaking Missionaries in Texas. They met at the Mission Valley Church Camp near San Antonio. It is encouraging to see our Spanish-speaking brethren getting better acquainted and having a time of fellowship. June 29th thru July 3rd they are having Youth Camp at the Mission Valley Camp.

We plan to be in Brownwood the last weekend of July for a visit with Missionary Leland Acker and Grace Pointe MBC . That weekend they will also host the quarterly meeting of the Southwest Association. They have a Ladies’ meeting and a Men’s meeting during the morning and during the afternoon, they come together for a Mission Rally. We are looking forward to this time of fellowship with these people in the Western area of our state. They do not have as many opportunities for fellowship as we do in some areas.

Please continue to pray for, and support, the work of the MBA of Texas.

The month of June was a time of bonding. We enjoyed a church-wide picnic and games. The Esther class came to an end and the ladies are wanting to start another series. We ended this class with a get-to-know-you party and will start the next one with a banquet. Several new ladies are wanting to begin the next study soon.

We had two new members come this month. God is continuing to send guests each Sunday. Fifteen gathered in the fellowship hall this month for a Young At Heart lunch. The outreach has been very rewarding. One man has been saved through this ministry. We enjoy ministry with Senior Saints. Thank you for supporting this work in Irving. You are welcome to visit. Keep on keeping on!

The month of June was an interesting month. The vacation season is hurting our attendance but I have been preaching 45 years and I have never seen church attendance increase during June, July and August. However, we continue to have prospects visit our church. Some are showing an interest and we are praying that God will lead them our way.

Our young people are looking forward to Pine Springs Camp July 6th thru July 10th. We have a good number signed up for Camp and some have not been saved. We are praying they will be saved during that week. Please continue to pray for us.

The month of June was very busy. Bro. Ray Williams and I just got back from Mexico. It was a six day mission trip. The Lord showed us His power. We were amazed at how we can worship God outside. It was 95 degrees when we gathered together under the shade of a tree. To our surprise, 27 people gathered together to worship God. Nine of them are my family members and all of them had come from a Catholic background. Fifteen of them had been saved before when I was preaching there. When we finished three young men, ages 16-20, came forward and asked the Lord to forgive them of their sins. They put their hands on the Bible and said they believed that Jesus Christ is the only Savior. Praise God! Bro. Williams and I are planning to go back the last part of August to baptize some of them. Bro. Abel Oviedo is going to disciple them about baptism and Bro. Ray Williams plans to do the baptizing, if the Lord wills. These trips are costing $300-400 which I am paying out of my pockets. I have sold a few of my car parts to get the money to make the trips. If you could help us to make these trips into San Juan, Mexico, please send the offerings to my sponsoring church, Corinth MBC in Timpson, TX. Please help me to do what God has called me to do. God will bless you in a special way.

In Texas we are working hard. The first week of July we will have the Hispanic Church Camp at the Mission Valley Youth Camp facility. We are hoping to have about 50 in attendance. I wish I could give you a full report of the work the Lord has given to us. All I can say is that Pedro and I have more work than we can handle. We also have plans to have Bible Study in the annex building of Fellowship MBC in Pasadena. We plan to have the study on Sunday nights. The reason we are going to do this is because recently one of my wife’s uncles died and we went to his funeral. Three hundred people were there and I had no intentions of preaching because all of them are Agric Mexican Catholic. To my surprise the closest family members asked me if I could minister to them because the priest was not able to be there. I was scared to death! I told them it was fine. I went to the restroom and prayed so hard. The Lord was with me and two people came forward, knelt and put their hands on the Bible and asked the Lord to forgive them. On their way out from the service, many people asked me if I could pray for their family and if I could teach them more about God. Now we have several families who want to learn more about God. I shared this with Fellowship MBC and they voted to let me use their building for the Hispanic people. Please pray for all this and for the Lord to give me the strength and wisdom and protection so I can continue working for Him.
God bless all of you.

Total Church Offering $839.00 Gave To Missions $83.90 Paid For Rent $600.00

We moved into the rented building on June 1st, enjoyed our first services there June 7th and have been tirelessly working to make the proper improvements so that we’ll have the use of the entire building. The kitchen, fellowship hall and nursery had fallen into disrepair. Using the abundance of God’s blessings through the support sent to us by our sister churches, we have been able to refloor the kitchen and fellowship hall, repaint the kitchen, fellowship hall and nursery. We have added hymnals to the pews in the sanctuary and constructed a 15’x 4’ sign in front of the building on U.S. Hwy. 67/84. Mission funds have supplied the materials and mission members have supplied the labor.

We had three first-time visitors who were Independent Baptists from Paris, TX but decided to visit our mission because they saw “Missionary Baptist” on the sign and had fond memories of an ABA church in Paris. They were returning to Paris after completing a road construction project in nearby Santa Anna. The same day we had the visitors, we had baptismal services at Lake Brownwood State Park. Three were baptized in front of mission members, family, friends and park visitors. Our high attendance was the day of the baptismal services. We had 28 in attendance.

Don’t miss the Mission Rally at Grace Pointe MBM coming up at 10:00 a.m. on July 25th. We will be hosting the churches of the Southwest Association of Missionary Baptist Churches and will enjoy fellowship, mission reports, a presentation by Bro. Marion Reed and a message from Bro. Jim Slocumb. Southwest Association mission rallies are a great time of fellowship and mission support and this will be the closest these rallies will get to Central and East Texas for the foreseeable future.

Please pray for us. I am taking some vacation time in July to take my wife to Colorado to see her Mother. This will be the first time the mission will be without my presence but I will leave the mission in the capable hands of Bro. Slocumb and Bro. Mike Johnson. I will miss only one Sunday.

Future plans are for VBS to be held August 3-7 at the mission. We are contemplating holding revival services but are unsure of when they will be scheduled. Thank you for your generous support and prayers.

We have had visitors every service in June. Our members are getting well. Our spirit in the church is very sweet. We are encouraged by some of our visitors. I believe in the next couple of months we will have many from God from our visitors that have been coming. This last month God has removed a problem from our church. For this I give thanks to our Lord. Please continue to pray for this church.

June was a very busy month. Some of our outreach activities are beginning to work and our attendance was up some. We attended the ABA messenger meeting in Springfield, MO and then took a four day vacation. This is the first vacation we have had in four years.

We will be in Youth Camp at Pine Springs July 6th thru 10th. We have 32 campers and we are really looking forward to Camp. Some of our planned outreach is beginning to show some promise. Pray for us as we continue God’s work in Center, TX.

JIM SLOCUMB
TEXAS MISSION DEVELOPMENT

Praise the Lord! TMD had two new supporters in June.

The ballot results were counted and mailed our to our supporting members. Because of a tie in the number of votes, Memorial MBC of Elkhart and Landmark MBC of Kileen will be the third quarter projects.

My appointments in June were the 161st Anniversary of Rocky Springs MBC in Dialville, Memorial MBC of Rusk and a five day revival with Spann’s Chapel MBC of Center.

On June 6th and 7th I was able to enjoy a family reunion with my siblings and our families in Jacksonville. Please continue to pray for TMD and for more supporters.
