The fiscal year 2002-2003 for the Missionary Baptist Association of Texas will end on August 31st. I feel that it has been a good year for State Missions. We have visited with all of our State Missionaries and received a blessing from each service we were privileged to attend. We have also visited in many other churches and have been well received. It has been a learning experience for us since we began our work in mid January. We have received a great deal of satisfaction from working with the Missionaries and churches in the State of Texas.

I want to say thank you to Mrs. Luther Crawford for the generous offering she sent to the general fund when her home in Corsicana was sold. Also, thank you to Bro. Ricky Knight for his help with the computer programs; setting them up and teaching us their operations. This will allow us to do everything with the computer beginning with the new year on September 1st. .

Please remember that if your church is planning to request salary for a Missionary for the coming year, the requests are due in by September 15th. Please also read the guidelines in the Statement of Mission Policy on pages 68-70 in the 2002 MBA yearbook and make your plans accordingly. It is my prayer that God will call more missionaries to the field and that they will answer that call. We need a witness in many areas of our state.

GORDON RILEY

WILLS POINT

Our attendance has seen an increase except for the July 4th weekend. The Lord blessed us very greatly when He sent Brian Etheridge back to us. He has brought some great messages. He is the help that was needed to work with our youth. Because Brian is with us, my wife and I took a vacation for the first time in three years. We had two of our daughters and grandchildren share some of this time with us. Our daughters, Julie Hively and Carol Olivas, served as counselors at church camp.

Our records show that we are reaching about 50 people each week through all of our services. Our Sunday School attendance has been from the low to high thirties. We know when school starts we will have more youth. Souls are being saved and we praise God for this. We sincerely thank all of you who continue your support and prayers. Please pray for our pastor, Bro. Pervis Williams, who is in serious condition at Medical City Hospital as we make this report.

Attendance averages for July are: Sunday School 26, Morning Worship 33, B.T.C. 17, Evening Worship 26, Midweek 8. Total church offering $1369.00, Given to Missions $100.00, Received from project for salary $200.00, Received from others for salary $300.00, Total paid on property

Another First!

During July we experienced another first. The Texas Avenue Baptist Church family had a group of 20 go to camp. While we have members who have been to camp at one time or another, we had never been as a church family. It was great to spend time away from the garbage of the world for a while and see God work in our lives. We praise God for the decisions made and lives changed during our first trip to camp together.

New Sister!

We rejoice with Crystal Cocke who accepted Jesus as Savior our first night at camp. She had been asking questions about salvation for a month or so. We are so thankful for her. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anyone so thankful and excited to know the Savior and to have that peace. Please pray for this young lady as she walks with Jesus. She has plans to make her profession public before the church very soon and will be requesting baptism and church membership. Please pray for the others of our church family who made commitments at camp. PRAISE GOD

Thank You!

Thanks to all of you who send offerings to help in the work here at Texas Avenue Baptist. Please continue to pray for us. We appreciate you so much!

Pilot Point

I want to start off this report by acknowledging two wonderful sister

churches for their financial support. They are Shiloh Missionary Baptist

Mission of Post Falls, Idaho for their offering of $165.00, and Clement

Street Missionary Baptist Church for their offering of $109.35. These two

works have chosen to help us in our endeavor to build a Missionary Baptist

Work in Pilot Point, TX. My heart felt thanks goes out to you, my brothers

and sisters in Christ.

Well the verdict finally came in on our septic replacement. The inspector

has informed us that we will have to use the aerobic treatment with drip

irrigation. Ching! Ching! This system can cost us up to $10,000.00. Pray

for us, would you please.

In spite of the "summer slump" with some of our people out of town every weekend, our attendance has held up pretty good and visitors continue to come. We were blessed with the baptism of Bro. Bob Wyrick last Sunday. He will be helping the Texas Mission Builders starting this Fall. One of our other men, Bro. Jeff Brooks, helped the TMB some this month and will be joining them again as his schedule permits. We are glad the Lord has led these men to this ministry.

We have "kicked" off our building campaign with a "square foot"! We present certificates of appreciation to those who buy one or more square feet at $45 per square foot. If you wish to help in the building of God’s house by purchasing some sq. ft., write us at P.O. Box 331595, Ft. Worth, TX 76163 or call 817-689-4176. You will be investing in an eternal blessing and have a good tax deduction.

We voted to call Bro. Larry Huffman as our Assistant Pastor/Minister of Education and Development. Pray for him as he fills this role. He is working at a secular job, which allows him to fill this position without pay while we are trying to build a building and get organized. He had a very good visit with a church in Arkansas to present our building fund needs. We are so thankful for God bringing him and his wife, Becky, to us. What a tremendous blessing they are.

We received a total of $1383 from other churches. All of you who support us financially and prayerfully are greatly appreciated.

Souls Saved!

There has been eleven English speaking folks saved this month while door knocking! There has been a total of twenty-two, including the Hispanics! Praise The Lord! He is great! I sure love having a partner, especially one that speaks Spanish and is a great soul winner!

Hispanic Work!

There has been eleven Hispanic’s saved this month door knocking! A total of seventeen saved since Brother Rodriguez started last month! Praise The Lord! Please pray for his wife, sister Mari. She is in the hospital with a lot of pain in her back, stomach, arms and legs. They have ran several tests on her and have not decided what she has yet. They think she might have MS. They are needing help with some doctor bills also. If you might be able to help, it would sure be appreciated. Thank you.

Building Progress!

We are still working on getting the preliminary and final plat through the city. I don’t have any solid news on the water line. I will keep you posted.

Visiting Youth Group!

The youth group from South Union M.B.C. in Daingerfield Tx. were here with us this month. They knocked on over 600 doors! There were three people saved! We have seventy-eight follow-ups! We had a great time with them! Thank you very much for being with us, South Union!

Special Thanks!

I want to thank our supporting churches for your faithfulness! You are such a blessing to me and the work here. May the Lord continue to bless you all. Please come and see us if you can. It would be a blessing for you to see what you are a part of here in Denton.
