The TMD was organized in 1972 after much prayer and council for
the purpose of giving financial assistance to missions and small
churches. It was patterned after a similiar program operating
among Oklahoma Misssionary Baptist.
In the past, missionaries have at times been unable to obtain suitable
property and have been forced to settle in undesirable locations.
Today, the churches established under these circumstances are suffering the
consequences.
The central purpose of TMDF is to give Missionary Baptists in Texas the
opportunity to do greater mission work in the future by providing funds:
To buy land for church sites.
To erect new church buildings.
To buy existing church buildings.
To ease the financial load of struggling churches.
The TMD is not intended to take funds away from other mission projects,
but is a means to provide greater mission work in Texas churches.
Quarterly funds have exceeded $20,000.00. The new goal is for $25,000.00
Each member shall endeavor to give a specified amount per quarter. This
offering can be one dollar or more. Missions or churches desiring the
receipts of TMD shall make their request before the new quarter begins.
Only missions or churches in the State of Texas may request or receive
TMD funds.
The advisory Council (consisting of one vote per participating church)
shall vote by mail each quarter to determine the receipts. Only
active supporters will be sent ballots. (Active within the year.)
A letter will be sent to each member notifying them of the actions taken
by the Advisory Council and requesting them to send their offering before
the quarter ends. Quarterly funds are presented to the project in
person.
A meeting will be held annually at the designated time and place of the
messengers body meeting of the Texas State Association. The
purpose of this meeting will be to discuss any problems, goals or ideas
for Texas Mission Development.
